Dr. Sangeet Mittal currently serves as the Director of Vitreo-Retina at Thind Eye Hospital, Jalandhar. He completed his medical graduation from Government Medical College, Amritsar, and pursued post-graduation at PGI, Chandigarh. Furthering his specialization, Dr. Mittal completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, where he was honored with the Dr. V.T. Joshi Gold Medal for Best Fellow by the Medical Research Foundation in 1997.
Dr. Mittal's contributions to ophthalmology have been recognized on numerous occasions. In 2009, he was awarded the Dr. J.M. Pahwa Best Paper Award by the Vitreo-Retinal Society of India (VRSI). His research has earned him the Best Free Paper Award at the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) annual conference twice, in 2010 and 2019. Additionally, his scientific posters have garnered recognition at the conferences of VRSI and the Punjab Ophthalmological Society, highlighting his consistent contributions to ophthalmic research.
At Thind Eye Hospital, Dr. Mittal has performed over 14,000 major vitreo-retinal surgeries, establishing him as one of the leading surgeons in his field. His international accomplishments are equally impressive; he received the 'Best of the Show' award at the European Vitreo-Retinal Society (EVRS) annual conference for three consecutive years (2017, 2018, and 2019). In recognition of his global impact, he was named the ‘Ophthalmology Star of India’ by AIOS in February 2020.
Dr. Mittal's groundbreaking work continued in 2021 when, at the AIOS annual conference, he became the first individual to receive three top honors: the C.S. Reshmi Award for Best Video, the E.T. Selvam Award for Best Physical Poster, and the AIOS Trauma Award for Best Free Paper on trauma. Furthermore, his innovations were acknowledged with the Best Video and Best Innovation Awards at the VRSI annual conference. Most recently, he was awarded the prestigious Narsing Rao Award for Best Paper in Uveitis by AIOS, solidifying his reputation as a leader in ophthalmic surgery and research.
